This pattern is for a long textured scarf which can be done in yarns weights from fingering/sports to an aran weight. A superwashed wool would be perfect, giving a great blocking detail and better durability.

This is best done in a solid or lightly variegated or tonal colorways.

Heavy fingering, sock, or DK weights should be worked with US6 needles. Worsted and Aran on US8 of US9.

Using an acrylic yarn is also possible but more yardage will be needed since blocking will not add much length. A thin acrylic will produce a thinner width scarf.
