Directions are included for two sizes of the cowl. The smaller size will fit quite snuggly around the neck, while the larger provides 1 1/2” of positive ease. The design requires eight colors of yarn to work the Fair Isle pattern.

Knitters less experienced with stranded colorwork may be more comfortable working a Faux Isle cowl. A chart for working a Faux Isle cowl is included in the pattern. If knitting this version, be sure to choose two yarns with differing values (use a dark shade coupled with a lighter one). A variegated yarn for the motifs and a darker solid for the background work well together.
