Liminal space is a place of transition, a threshold between two points, signaling the end of one time or space, and the beginning of another. These spaces exist in the real world as physical locations but are also present in our cognition and psychological experience, often related to major life changes and periods of uncertainty. For example, September is liminal time, a transition between summer and autumn, belonging to neither but containing elements of both.

The Liminal Cowl is an accessory for transition, light weight but warm, begun as a traditional top down triangular shawl but worked in the round in its final stages. It may be worn as a purely decorative piece, or to add practical warmth to the open collar of a light jacket.

Materials Needed:
- 3.75mm (US 5) circular needle or size of needle needed for gauge
- 310 yards fingering weight yarn
- darning needle for weaving in ends

Optional:
The first section of the pattern is worked flat and may be worked on straight needles if preferred. A circular needle is required to finish the main part of the cowl.

Gauge: 24 sts by 32 rows over 4”/10cm in stocking stitch
before blocking
Gauge is given for the fabric before blocking as individual blocking rates will vary according to the desire of the crafter. Note that the final size depends upon the rate of blocking.
