Plants and animals are very popular motifs in West Estonian Island of Muhu, where bold aniline, red, yellow and orange colors are very used in knitting and other folk costumes.

Wide and narrow stripes typically alternate in the Muhu socks. In my opinion colors and patterns are similar to the color saturation French Provence fabrics. Muhu men have been well known by their maritime skills – maybe they have brought the issues behind the sea? Who knows.

ERRATUM:

Just before FOOT section patterns says “stichop lastich round…” > Knit to end of needle I (with color you have used last). (After this turn work and knit first WS row of heel flap).

Muhulaissukkiin on kirjottu se, mitä pihalla näyy: kärpäset, kukat, koirat, meren aallot, aurinko tai onnenpyörä. Nämä sukat neuloo yllättävän joutuisasti, koska sukissa on vaihtelua, mutta ne eivät ole teknisesti erityisen vaikeat. Itse jalkaosan kantapäästä alkaen voit tehdä lempiohjeellasi tai noudattaa ohjeessa olevaa perusohjetta. Polven yli ulottuvissa sukissa on sukan suussa kuminauha, joka pitää ne napakasti paikoillaan.
