Our state flower, Mahonia aquifolium, otherwise known as the Oregon Grape, shows off many different shades of color in its blossom-to-berry cycle. The pointed, glossy leaves, the bright yellow blooms, the fall ripened, grape-like “berries” and even the wine colored stems help to display its natural beauty. The soft and spongy puff stitch made me think of Mahonia’s profusely laden berries.

(2) skeins Heartwood by Bumblebirch, (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon; 463 yds/100g), shown in colorway Cranberry
