Top-down construction is an easy way to knit set-in sleeves. Stitches are cast on for the upper back, which is worked back and forth in rows. The armholes are shaped with increases and cast- on stitches, and then all stitches are put on waste yarn. Stitches for the front are picked up in the back cast-on stitches in two sections and worked separately until they are joined at the base of the neck. The front is worked to the underarm as the back and joined to the back to work the body in the round. The sleeve stitches are picked up around the armhole and the cap is shaped with short rows worked back and forth. The sleeve is worked in the round. Stitches are picked up around the neck opening to work the neckband.

The marled look is created by holding strands of two different yarns together.
