The shawl was created with a colder season in mind, a warm, snug, cosy and comfortable wrap to be worn over an anorak or a coat. Something not too big, something that is easy to put on and something which stays put once you wrap yourself in.

It is a simple yet classy shawl, slightly asymmetrical, with a pointed border which is first worked together with the body of the shawl and then, when desired length of the shawl is reached, attached to live stitches. There are two options - garter or stockinette - and in my opinion garter is better for solid colours and stockinette for variegated.

The pattern can be customized by using different yarns, needle sizes, or adding repeats to the pattern

Level: the shawl is easy to knit, perfect for beginners, the pattern is intuitive and easy to memorise.

Yarn – If you want to make it a warm shawl, choose yarn ranging from DK to chunky, if your shawl is going to be light and airy, use fingering to sport.

The pinkish shawl was done with Ella Rae Merino Chunky and I used 400g / 443m / 484 yards on US 6 / 4.0mm needles to obtain a shawl that measures 220 cm x 53 cm (88 inches x 21 inches) blocked.
The grey garter version was done with Wellamo Novita and I used 220g / 400m / 438. yards on US 6 / 4.0mm needles to obtain a shawl that measures 204 cm x 48 cm (80 inches x 19 inches) blocked.
The blue variegated shawl was done in sock yarn and blocked very aggressively.

Needles - any size according with the yarn you use

Gauge is not crucial and depends on the yarn and needles you choose to knit with. My gauge was 11sts x 20 rows (pinkish) and 13sts x 22 rows (grey) = 10x10cm / 4x4 inches blocked.
For the blue shawl the gauge is 14sts x 32 rows.

I wanted the shawls to be drapey and lacy so I knitted them really loosely. Blocking is a must!

Chusta na chłodniejszą porę roku, taka ciepła i przytulna, do owinięcia się na płaszcz lub kurtkę. Nie za duża, łatwa ‘w użyciu’ – taka, która się sama z siebie malowniczo zamotuje i sama z siebie trzyma na miejscu.

‘Mehmendira’ zupełnie nic nie znaczy, ale ładnie brzmi, tak akurat podchodząco dla takiego prostego i raczej klasycznego udziergu.

Chusta jest lekko niesymetryczna, w kształcie rogala. Ozdobna bordiura z dzióbkami powstaje najpierw w trakcie dziergania części głównej, a potem jest dołączana do drugiej połowy chusty oczko po oczku. Dwie wersje do wyboru - ściegiem gładkim lub francuskim.

Udzierg łatwy, nie całkowicie bezmyślny ale bardzo intuicyjny, z łatwym do zapamiętania raportem, wzór można dostosować używając różnej grubości włóczki i drutów oraz zwiększając lub zmniejszając część główną chusty.

Włóczka – na ciepłą zimową chustę najlepsza będzie dość gruba, minimum 300m na 100g, naturalne włókna, żeby się dobrze zblokowało, na chustę potrzeba jakieś 200-250g w zależności od grubości włóczki i od wielkości udziergu.
Jeżeli chusta ma być bardziej dla ozdoby niż grzania - włóczka może być dużo cieńsza.

Druty – rozmiar dopasowany do włóczki.

Próbka - jako, że chusta ma wyjść lekko ażurowa, dobrze, żeby była wydziergana luźno i na dość grubych drutach, a potem energicznie zblokowana. Próbka nie jest bardzo istotna, ale dobrze jest sprawdzić, na ile ‘ażurowo’ wychodzi - w moich chustach 11 - 14o = 10cm.
