There is an error in the foot chart of this pattern in the first edition of Favorite Socks; the purl stitches between the columns of lace on the leg should continue onto the foot (as they do in the picture of the finished sock).  For more information, see this link.  The pattern as it appears in the Summer 2003 issue of Interweave Knits is correct.
