I was making Myra Wood ‘s Magic Loop Mitts: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/magic-loop-mitts
for a Christmas gift when my 4 year old son became fascinated with them. He has never before taken an interest in a knitted item so I rejoiced when he said he wanted a pair.

Then I had to make them.

At first I thought I would be making a few modifications, but one thing after another ended up with a completely new pattern that simply looked like miniature versions of the original mitts.

I had to make him take them off for supper by saying that he couldn’t eat French Fries with his gloves on.

Why is this a free pattern?
The inspiration pattern by Ms. Wood is generously provided for free. When I contacted her for permission to publish this pattern I told her I would provide this pattern for free. Let’s keep wee hands warm.

Here is a slightly more verbose description of the crossed stitch for anyone having difficulty with my original description:

Insert the right hand needle between the first 2 stitches on the left hand needle and knit the 2nd stitch without dropping it off of the needle, then knit the first stitch on the left hand needle and then slip both stitches from needle together.
For thoughts on how to re-size this pattern for your child’s hands please see my blog at the above link.
