Mitaines d'Orgue
Those fingerless mitts were created for an organ player who suffers in the unheated churches in winter. They are long enough to keep arm and fingers warm while not playing and can be folded back to make room for finger movement. The thumb gusset is relatively large, so the movement of the thumb is not restricted.
They were designed for rather slim and long hands, but the cabled ribbing makes them adapt quite well in width and for the length just try them on and shorten if required.
For larger hands you can go up 0.25mm in needle size.
And if you do not play organ… they are also useful if you need your fingers to use your phone or tablet. ;-)
They were designed for a man, but I think cables are unisex.
As yarn you can use any fingering/ sock yarn. I chose a blend with cashmere and silk for extra softness, but that is up to you.
