Mittens for Good Neighbours #1
Cute colourwork mittens with small houses all over. The pattern has short floats that make them suitable if you haven’t worked colourwork mittens before. These mittens have the sore thumb construction. The e-book also give instructions for mittens with other thumb constructions, as described below.
The house mittens were originally made for a workshop at Shetland Wool Week 2016: The thumb gusset.
The mittens in the e-book feature three different thumb styles, the Selbu style, the sore thumb and the life line thumb. For the two first thumb styles, there are two different ways of working the gusset. There are two sizes for each version, achieved by different gauges.
Yarn used: For the sample mittens I used Jamieson & Smith 2ply jumper weight and other similar 2ply fingering yarn left overs. You need approx. 36 g of the MC and 24 g of the CC for each pair.
The mittens can be worked in two colours with a nice result. If you want more colours, you can sort your yarn into gradients and work either the background colour or the houses (or both) in a gradient. Feel free to play with the colours of your stash!
