Molly & Hector
I love all the textured Scottish gansey stitch patterns, and this sock honors Monarch of the Glen, the whacky Scottish novel by Compton Mackenzie. Named for two of the principal characters, these toe-up socks provide an easy knit and purl pattern that is refined and a pleasure to knit.
So grab your sock yarn and enjoy knitting away on these beauties.
Pattern is toe-up, Magic-Loop, with video tutorial links for Judy’s Magic Cast-On, pfb stitch, w&t, Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. Anyone can make this sock!
NOTE: This textured pattern will show up best with a lighter colored, solid yarn. Using a dark yarn/tonal/variegated yarn will nullify the effect of the texture, which shows up best in light and shadow nuance.
Information on gauge is for the women’s size in fingering weight yarn. Men’s specifications: Use a 2.75 or 3.00 mm circular needle, and sport weight yarn. Knit an additional chart repeat or two on the leg of the sock. See pattern for more information.
