Monongahela
The Monongahela(pronunciation) is named after the Monongahela River which flows through West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Monongahela, loosely translated means, “It has a loose bank where one might fall in”, which sounds awful slippy (Pittsburghese for ‘slippery’). I used to do field archaeology and one project was a Monongahela Culture Village. This culture is named after the river. I also worked in the Morgantown, WV area through which the Monongahela River also flows. To me it represents more than just a river in Pittsburgh. It is a lifeline to many people, and other organisms, past and present.
The shaping is designed so the shawl sits securely on your shoulders without slipping. This is a ‘choose your adventure’ sort of pattern, thus the yardage variation from 120-1600 yards. There are 46 pages in this pattern but one could knit more than 46 versions of this shawl from those pages. I have attempted to make it easy to print out only the pages you need.
For more info you might want to check out Monongahela KAL. This group originally test knit the pattern and now is transitioning to being dedicated to Monongahela knitters in general as well as my other designs. The Help on deciding how big to make this and Video Instructions might be helpful. Also Anatomy. I swear this is easier than it looks!

’row 38’ should be ‘row 53’ The repeats were also unmarked. Below is row 53 corrected.
row 53:k1, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, k1, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, yo, (k1, yo, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, k3, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, yo) X plus 2 times, k1, yo, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, ssk, yo, k1, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, yo, k2t, k1
The First Point also has the incorrect row numbers but otherwise appears correct. It should start with row 55 and so forth instead of row 40.
