Who says lace can’t be warm too? With the addition of a healthy dose of garter stitch, these comfy, speedily knit mittens are just the thing for a bit of selfish knitting. Instructions are also included for fingerless mitts.

Skill level:
Intermediate. Includes knitting in the round, picking up stitches, yarnovers, left- and right-leaning decreases using knit and purl stitches (k2tog, p2tog, p3tog, ssk, ssp), kitchener stitch (grafting) and a sewn bind-off.

Gauge:
20 sts/36 rows per 4” in stocking stitch.

Sizes:
Women’s small (medium, large) – 6.5 (7.5, 8.5)” / 16.5 (19, 21.5)cm hand circumference. Samples knitted in size small (full mittens) and medium (fingerless mitts).

Finished measurements:
Small (medium, large) – 6 (6.5, 7)” / 15.5 (16.5, 18)cm circumference unstretched, with approximately 1 (1, 1.5)” / 2.5 (2.5, 3.5)cm negative ease.

Used in fingerless mitt sample: Manos Del Uruguay Silk Blend, colour ‘Arctic’
Used in full mittens sample: Ethical Twist Wool Alpaca, colour ‘Slate’

Required yardage:
For mittens, 160 (180, 200)yds. For fingerless mitts, 130 (150, 170)yds.

Supplies:
4mm (US 6) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. Double pointed needles may be used for the thumb.
Short length of waste yarn for holding thumb stitches
Stitch markers: one to mark thumb, and one optional to mark beginning of round.
