This keep-you-warm-in-the-chilliest-of-houses rectangular shawl features my 1234 Huey handspun gradient Merino wool yarn. I’ve used slipped stitches and a background of natural color, rustic handspun Merino and Baby Camel Down (Cam Huey) to show off the 3 color gradient done in a 1,2,3,3,2,1 dye pattern.

For the shawl you will need 1200 yards of DK Cam Huey handspun (Six 200 yard skeins) and One 300 yard skein of DK 1234 Huey Gradient handspun.

For the scarf you will need 400 yards of DK Cam Huey handspun (Two 200 yard skeins) and One 90-100 yard skein of DK 1234 Huey Gradient handspun.

Needles needed,US size 6 or 7, 4mm - 4.75mm. Strait or Circular needles will work in a length to hold 10” for the scarf or 28” for the Shawl.

Gauge isn’t a big concern with this pattern, just swatch in garter stitch and find a finished fabric you like. I find US size 6 or 7 works great. If I want a tighter fabric I use the 6’s but for an even softer fabric I like to use our Newhouse Carbon fiber needles US 7’s which are a just a little bigger at 4.75mm.

I find that handspun yarns shine best in simple patterns. Nothing too fancy in this creation, if you can cast on, and off, Knit and Purl, slip a stitch from one needle to the other, you should find the shawl or scarf a breeze to knit up.
