Matchbox Pet Frog
This pattern is for a small no-sew frog and a worm (for it to eat!). 2 versions of the frog are included – a single colour version and a 2-colour version which has a different colour tummy. The pattern also includes printable templates to enable you to make the matchbox and name card, making it an ideal gift, stocking filler or craft fair item.
This project is no-sew (you only have to close the hole at the end) and the frog can be made in around 20 minutes.
The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. I used aran weight yarn (equivalent to worsted, weight 4) and my finished frog measures approximately 6.5cm long and 3cm tall when in a lying down position. Using a thicker yarn than this may result in your pet frog not fitting inside the accompanying box.
I strongly recommend making a single colour frog before attempting the 2-colour version, so that you know how the pattern works before adding in the extra complication of colour changes!
For the Single Colour Frog (pages 4 - 5), you will need the following colour:
- Main frog colour - I used green (approx. 9.5m).
For the 2-Colour Frog (pages 6 - 7), you will need the following colours:
- Main frog colour - I used green (approx. 8m).
- Underside frog colour - I used pale yellow (approx. 2m).
For the Worm (page 8), you will need the following colour:
- Worm colour - I used pale pink (approx. 2m).
Please Note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
- A small amount of toy stuffing.
- Other tools you will need are a needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
- To make the matchbox and name card, you will need access to a printer and to print the relevant pages out onto thick white paper or thin white card.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
