Once upon a Leaf
“Once upon a leaf” is an airy lace shawl with beautiful winding leaves stitch pattern. Leaves evoke feelings of spring and summer, but this shawl would make a great accessory for any time of the year. The shawl is seamless and knitted top-down from the central neck stitches to the edge.
Finished Size:
The sample shawl in the photographs was knitted with 4.5 repeats of leaf pattern and after blocking was 185 cm (72.8 inches) for the straight edge on the top of the shawl and 76 cm (29.9 inches) for the height of the shawl at the center. You can easily make it bigger or smaller by adding or taking away pattern repeats. The shawl design is modular and border pattern can be started after desired number of the body pattern repeats is knitted.
Gauge:
The gauge is not critical in knitting this shawl. Adjust your needle size to suite your yarn and achieve the size and the look of the shawl of your choice.
Yarn:
Original, bright green shawl, was knitted in Filatura Di Crosa Centolavaggi (100% Merino, cobweb-1ply). Shawl was knitted with yarn held double.
1.07 skeins = 1638.2 yards (1497.9m) was used for the sample shawl.
Colorway: Grass Green, 328
The 1-ply yarn can be substituted for a 2ply lace weight or fingering 4ply weight yarn if desired. The yardage needed for this shawl will change if you knit with a single strand of the yarn to 800-900 yards (700-800m).
The minty green sample was knitted in Dye for Yarn Fingering merino/silk.
