I started this project using a ready-made pattern that claimed to be a reproduction of a tam Mary Margaret wears on Once Upon A Time©. However, I wasn’t happy with the lace pattern: it was a close approximation, but not a true reproduction. Several hours and a couple screenshots later, I was able to match the pattern, chart it, and reproduce it. After many requests and at the urging of friends, I decided to assemble and share my own pattern.

This pattern can produce a slouchier tam or a close-fitting beanie depending on yarn weight and gauge. About 9 stitches per inch with a light fingering on size 3 needles makes a beautiful beanie whereas 6-7 stitches per inch with a fingering weight on the same size needles gives more slouch.

The beanie knit on size 3 needles took about 23g of Mimi.
