Organic Cotton Heirloom Newborn Baby Hat
Perfect for those who like to knit in-the-round, this soft, safe, reversible, newborn baby hat is worked with a super-fast, easy-to-knit lacy look on one side and a rustic rib on the other. It is not a double knit. The reversible technique requires only knit, purl, and slip stitches.
Bonus: When the baby outgrows the hat, cherish the memories by turning it into a decorative bowl. The small also fits an American Girl Doll.
This pattern is well-written and has been professionally test knit and tech edited. Lee believes in charging for a pattern ONLY with the guarantee that the pattern has been thoroughly tested. She wants to make sure you love knitting every inch.
Materials
• Yarn:45 (55, 65)yards Knit Picks Simply Cotton Organic Worsted, in Marshmallow
Not sure which size baby will need? Make more than one! Pick any two sizes; knit them first. (The yardage suggestions are intentionally overstated.) A skein of Knit Picks Simply Cotton Organic is 164 yards. If you stick to gauge and do not waste yarn, you should have more than enough to make a third size, too!
• Needle(s): U.S. Size 5 in your preferred style for
circular knitting (or size to get gauge).
• Notions: A hard ruler and a large-eye tapestry needle, scissors. For blocking: a spray bottle and a 16-ounce plastic drinking glass with a 3.5” brim.
Sizing
• Gauge:6 stitches = 1” in width, measured on rustic rib side, in the round. Because the hat is knit to length, no length gauge is needed. You may want to knit the hat as your swatch, checking width gauge after knitting 2” or so in length.
Sizes:Size 1 – Preemie to newborn (photo shown in Size 1).
Size 2 – Newborn to three months.
Size 3 – Large newborn to six months.
The pattern has instructions for all three sizes.
