This is my crocheted interpretation of the shall Claire wears in the Rent episode. You can make it with or without the lace like edging.

You will need: a G, H, & I hook, 472 yards or 2 skeins of Red Heart gray, about 240 yards or 2/3 of a skein of Red Heart Black, and a needle.

Overview:
Make 2 triangles increasing every other row, chaining 2 and turning at each end. Slip stitch the two together.
Add 5 rows of black to the bottom edge.
Add 7 rows of gray to the bottom edge.
Slip stitch loosely along the top and bottom of the black stripe to make it more crisp looking. (Optional)
Half double crochet along the top edge.
Add lace like edging. (Optional)
