Patrizia Cowl
With a pretty interplay of cables and lace, Patrizia can be knit in two styles -- a short cowl worn close to the neck, or a long loop that can be double-wrapped. Either way, it provides warmth and style in a cozy merino such as Marianated Yarns’ Playtime Worsted. The stitch pattern also creates gently scalloping borders which are brought out in blocking.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions. Pattern includes two files -- “Patrizia Cowl” for short version, and “Patrizia Loop” for long loop version.
Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Playtime Worsted — 100% superwash merino — 218 yds (199 m) to 100 g.
Short Cowl -- colorway Desert Sand, approx. 200 yds (183 m)
Long Loop -- colorway Hell Hath No Fury, approx. 420 yds (384 m)
Sizing:
Short Cowl -- 10.5” (26.5 cm) high and 21” (53 cm) around
Long Loop -- 9” (23 cm) high and 60” (152 cm) around
Number of pattern repeats can be easily changed to alter size.
Gauge:
18 sts and 30 rows to 4” (10 cm) in lace pattern, washed and blocked
Needles:
US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle, (16” for short cowl, 32” for long loop) and US 8 (5 mm) needle (for bind-off only)
PLEASE NOTE: I knit very tightly. I actually used a US 8 (5 mm) needle for the body of my cowl, with a US 9 (5.5 mm) needle to bind off, but knitters who are typically “on gauge” will likely wish to use a US 7 (4.5 mm) needle, with a US 8 (5 mm) needle to bind off. Very loose knitters may wish to use a US 6 (4 mm) needle, with a US 7 (4.5 mm) to bind off. Changes in gauge will affect finished size and amount of yarn used.
Other Materials:
One “beginning of round” stitch marker, add’l stitch markers if desired (5 for short cowl, or 15 for long loop), cable needle in appropriate size, tapestry needle, t-pins for blocking.
