An updated ‘adaptation’ of the Small & Large Block Afghans from Doreen’s original book; “Pick a Stitch, Build a Blanket”!

This is a great Afghan to make while learning or perfecting different stitch patterns. There are 64 different stitch
patterns to choose from and we have done all of the calculations so that each block will end up the same size, regardless of the stitch pattern used. They all start out with 30 sts for the smaller sized squares and 46 for the larger sized squares.

You will increase or decrease after the border to reach the number of stitches required to assure the blocks end up the same size regardless of stitch pattern selected. After completing the required number of pattern rows for size block you are making, you will then increase or decrease back to the 30 (46)
original stitches casted on.

Both sizes are worked with garter-stitch borders on all four sides of the block. You can make this Afghan by following our stitch/color table, using a total of 6 colors as we did, use less colors, or even make it all one color. The choice is up to you! This can truly be a one-of-a-kind project!

Materials
Yarn: Worsted Weight
Berroco “Vintage (52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon: 218 yards)
For Small Blocks Afghan:
A: 3 skeins in color #5105 (Oats) or approx. 600 yards(includes yds for border)
B: 2 skeins in color #51196 (Jalapeno) or approx. 420 yards
C: 2 skeins in color #5172 (Calico) or approx. 420 yards
D: 2 skeins in color #51170 ( Rose Quartz) or approx. 420 yards

F: 2 skeins of color #51172 (Iris) or approx. 420 yards

For the Large Blocks Afghan: You will need approx. 2,120 yards total. This will give you a layout of 5 x 5 ‘rectangles’, which will measure approx. 56” x 66”. You can do as many or as few colors as you would like, just divide your total yardage by the number of colors used. (Ex. 2,120 yards/5 colors = approx. 425 yards per color) Keep in mind you will need extra of whatever color you choose to do the border with
