These intricately-patterned mittens are a riff on an old Norwegian rose motif. The cuff edge is finished with a wide turned hem, and the back of the hand showcases three interconnected stars. The palm side has a simpler colorwork pattern, and the thumb gusset features a smaller version of the star.

Skills required are: knitting and purling in the round; stranded colorwork; working a yarn over; knitting through the back loop; increasing with kfb; and decreasing with k2tog, ssk, and sk2p. The sample shown was knitted with one skein each of Palette in Jay (MC) and Cream (CC).

(Note that I used almost the entire skein of Jay—have an extra skein handy or shorten the hems if you’re worried about running out.)
