I name this shawl “Pucuk Rebung” because the motif used in this shawl called Pucuk Rebung, which means bamboo-shoot, a traditional motif from Indonesia.

In Indonesia we have traditional hand woven sarong called Songket. There are many type of songket in Indonesia, one of them from Riau (a province in Sumatra Island). Some provinces have their own type of motif used in the songket. One of Riau’s songket motif called Pucuk Rebung. This motif has unique meaningful and ancient philosophy behind it.
As far as I know, this motif has never been used in needle craft such as knitting and crochet.

This pattern is for adventurous needle crafter who likes to explore something different and using a unique, unusual and traditional motif in needle craft. It’s also for knit and crochet lover. I mention crochet because the edging of this shawl created by crochet. So knitter and crocheter can live in harmony side by side.
