A dramatic lace wrap with beads representing the stars of the night sky. The central beaded star-chart covers the zodiac and neighbouring constellations.
Two sizes of silver beads represent the brightest stars, while blue beads map out the lines of the constellations so they are easy to recognise. The beaded star-chart is complemented by a ‘diamond mesh’ lace pattern in the borders and ends of the wrap.
This pattern is fully charted. To make placing the beads straightforward, use stitch markers corresponding to the chart’s grid-lines. I recommend the crochet hook method for adding beads as you knit.
Materials
- About 1,200 yards of lace-weight yarn. I made my wrap using 1180 yards of Skeinz Laceweight Merino in ‘Indigo’ (1093 yards per 100g skein).
- 2.75mm needles, or a needle size that produces a fabulous fabric with your yarn.
- 80 size 6 clear silver-lined seed beads.
- 150 size 8 clear silver-lined seed beads.
- 950 size 8 dark blue (or colour to match your yarn) transparent seed beads.
- Size 12 steel crochet hook for adding beads (or a size that fits through your beads).
- A crochet hook in a similar size to your needles, for provisional cast-on.
- 11 stitch markers, preferably the snagless kind.
- Crochet thread or smooth laceweight yarn in a contrasting colour for lifelines and provisional cast-on.
- Needle for weaving in ends and inserting lifelines.
- Blocking wires or pins.
