Quick Knit Baby Shrug
I had some left over scrap yarn and wanted to knit up something quick for a 1 year old birthday party I was invited to at the last minute. This is what I came up with.
Update on different sizes:
I was asked if I had any larger sizes made for this pattern and I did quickly make up a size adjustment. To see how the actual shrug turns out, check out nainis’s project page for these two adorable shrugs:
Using the same gauge
Modifications for 3 year old size:
Cast on 81 stitches and work in rib (1x1) for 3 rows just like the pattern.
Row 4 (Set-up on WS): Slip 1, K2, P11, place marker, P12, place marker, P29, place marker, P12, place marker, P11, K3.
Continue Rows 5 & 6 just like in the pattern, and knit for at least 12-15 more times. Hopefully, by this point you’ll have enough raglan increases to measure around 5-6 inches (from the collar to the armpit area). Knit the next 3 rows in 1x1 Rib for the sleeve portion only just like the pattern.
Knit the rest of the shrug just like the pattern. I would knit more rows to give more length once you get past the sleeves. Probably 7-10 more rows instead of the 4-5 than what the pattern says.
Note: I’m not sure how many stitches you’ll have once you get to the bottom, but make sure you have an ODD number or your 1x1 Rib won’t match up. If you’re off, just either add a stitch or do a k2tog. I would do this right after the sleeves, so count your stitches then and add or k2tog under one of the sleeves so that it’s hidden.
