Rainbow Scales Cowl
Take advantage of long or short color repeats in yarn by using this modular technique. The fan-shaped scales in this cowl are created in a method similar to entrelac – except for that you don’t have to pick up any stitches! If you’ve never worked entrelac before, don’t worry – just follow the instructions as written. After working a tier or two, you may find you have already memorized it!
Because of the amount of turning in this pattern, you may find it helpful to knit backwards. Find a few tutorials for knitting backwards here:

Note: The cowl can be knit in a variety of yarn thicknesses, for different qualities of fabric. A thinner yarn will result in a drapier cowl, while a thicker yarn will give a stiffer fabric.
