Ravenna Galla Placidia men's pullover
I was inspired by the mosaic from Ravenna’s Mausoleum of Galla Placidia: photo. I charted 3 variants: with band size 6 stitches, 5 stitches and 3 stitches. Total width correspondingly: 58, 49, 29 st. (the photos show 5 stitches band)
For the sides, back and sleeves I used “Crenellated Pattern” from “A Fourth Treasury Of Knitting Patterns” by B.Walker.
The pattern calls for 8 different colors + one for background.
The PDF file you are buying does NOT contain knitting instructions but these 3 color charts and Crenellated pattern chart. Also there are photos of the sweater.
Some guide lines how to plan this sweater:
- You must be an experienced knitter.
- Choose the yarn you want to use.
- Make an one-color swatch.
- Calculate total number of stitches for the desired sweater’s width according to the achieved gauge.
- Divide this number to 4 and see to what color chart it is close: 58, 49 or 29 stitches (29 st is good for the children variant).
- Recalculate the remaining 3/4 of stitches, adjust the number to the symmetrical use of the basic body pattern.
- Subtract 10-15% for the rib.
- Knit the rib, increase the stitches number, knit the colorful part, then knit the rest of the body, joining it on the fly or leaving for seeming after blocking.
- Sleeves and neck I leave at your discretion :)
- Good luck and please share your project!
P.S. That’s not the exact mosaic pattern since I removed the white lines. But the full mosaic pattern is also presented on Ravelry: Ravenna.
