Double knit hem could be turned and sewn instead, however it may not fit as snugly.

For Women’s hat, add one more repeat of cable rounds (1 inch depth), for large hat/man’s hat, add one extra repeat of cable rounds and one more repeat of cable pattern, 12 sts. You’ll have to fudge the decreases though.
