Ripple Robot Tunic
This is a pattern for a tunic that is size 2T. It has a chevron pattern for the “skirt” section, and a cute little robot applique right on the front. I put buttons on the shoulders so it can be put on either head first or feet first.
Materials:
Yarn--
MC = Caron One Pound in Claret
CC = Caron One Pound in Light Grey Mix
Other colors: white and black
Crochet hook sizes J/6.00mm and H/5.00mm
Yarn needle
Two small buttons for the eyes
Four medium buttons for the shoulders
Gauge:
36 ch should be about 11 inches
Notes:
I made this when I finished making a stuffed Tardigrade out of Caron One Pound yarn. I wanted to use up the leftover yarn. This creates a very thick, warm tunic when you make it as the pattern is written. Changing the yarn will likely change the size of the finished product, so do measure the child it’s intended for and make sure it will fit before you make the whole thing. Please contact me if you need help with the math when you try to add or reduce width or whatever.
The pattern will make a size 2T tunic as it is written. You may easily change the size by using a larger/smaller hook and larger/smaller yarn. I figured out the size by measuring around my daughter’s chest (21 inches), then deciding I’d make both the front and back bodice pieces 11 inches wide. For the “skirt” part, the number of total stitches needs to be divisible by 16. My total stitch count when the bodice pieces were joined was 72, so I needed to add 8 stitches evenly around to get to 80 stitches. You can use this method to change the size of your finished product.
The size J hook is used for the tunic itself. Only use the H hook for the robot applique.
My daughter doesn’t like it (this is an understatement) when we try to put things over her head, such as putting on a dress over her head. That’s why I made the shoulders button—so I can pull it on over her legs instead.
I apologize for the poor picture quality in the pattern. It’s that dark, rainy time of year in Oregon. :-)
