Sarah’s Shawl is a top-down Faroese Shaped shawl. The increases at the beginning of the shawl form shoulders that help it stay in place. The center back panel provides a decorative feature, and eliminates the point to your center of traditional triangle shawls.

Choose to knit Sarah’s Shawl in Aran or DK gauge, and garter stitch or stockinette. There are also options for the bind off. You can use your favorite bind off, a i-cord bind off, or the knit on diamond bind off. The length is not given, knitting from the top-down allows you to adjust this to personal preference.

Gauges:
Aran Gauge: 12 sts X 20 rows = 4in / 10cm in stitch pattern
DK Gauge: 20 sts X 25 rows = 4in / 10 cm in stitch pattern
This is for Stockinette, Garter would have the same st gauge, but not match the row gauge.

This pattern is fully charted. Explanations are given for how to choose the charts to use. You will also find a helpful page about Faroese shawls, shaping and garter stitch tab cast on.

This shawl was inspired by my Faroese shawl that always gets comments, and Annie Maloney’s stitch pattern. This stitch is #23 from Stitch Definition.
