Scalemail Gauntlets
Fingerless gloves with a scale knit section on reverse stockinette across the back of the hand. Ribbing section across the palm with optional decrease/increase instructions at the wrist/arm to ensure a proper fit.
Skills Needed: Working in the round, increasing and decreasing and the scale stitch available from Crafty Mutt’s blog. Being able to calculate gauge is good too.
Sizing: Variable - with your measurements and a gauge swatch you should be able to calculate the proper number of stitches for your size.
This is not a proper, row-by-row and stitch-by-stitch pattern. It is more of a recipe. Intermediate and Advanced knitters should have no difficulty with it however Beginner knitters may benefit from purchasing Crafty Mutt’s pattern available on Ravelry. I intentionally wrote this pattern to be more fluid since I have made several pairs by now and no two are alike.
Materials: Worsted weight yarn and small scales -- Size: 9/16” x 7/8”, 0.22” hole (14.3mm x 22.2mm, 5.6mm hole). I purchase my scales from The Ring Lord - but you can find some available elsewhere online. Yardage varies by size, but I made a 9 inch long pair for a 9 inch hand using less than one full skein of Vanna’s Choice.
This is my first-ever pattern written for anyone besides myself so thank you in advance for your kindness! I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.
