The fascinating color transitions of the Sea Change Cowl are created by combining the simplicity of slip stitch color work with the curious magic of a Mobius cast on. Slip stitch color work is simple to execute because it uses just one color per round. A Mobius cast on creates a twisted loop that grows out in each direction from the center, displaying both sides of a fabric in a unique way.
The Sea Change Cowl was inspired by a timely combination of location, life changes, and beautiful yarn. Watching the sea ebb and flow while on vacation, I was thinking about the changes to come at work as I played with turning some sea and sun colored Madelinetosh DK yarns into “moving on” gifts for several coworkers. A slip stitch pattern that looked interesting on both sides led me to the Mobius cast on so both sides display. Four small cowls quickly flew off the needles. Thinking of Christmas gifts, I chose a different color combination and made a larger size. Next I explored different weight yarns.
Warning, knitting this pattern seems to be just a bit addictive!
