This top is created using the Hexi-style. Starting with one panel, you will work in the round from the armpit, radiating outwards to form one arm and one side of the body. Next, you will create the sleeve by closing the top of your panel. You can then add more rounds to increase the width and height of the body, without making the sleeves any wider or longer.

Repeat this process for the second panel and finally, you will join both panels at the centre front and back to form the neckline opening.

Level of difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced
Crochet language: US Crochet terms
You will need:
• 4 mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers
• 4ply (size 2) yarn of your choice. I used Paintbox 100% cotton 4ply.
Pattern requires basic knowledge of the following crochet stitches:
• Slip stitch, chain, single crochet, double crochet and treble crochet

Yarn requirements (approximately):
S: 1200 yards M: 1300 yards
L: 1450 yards XL: 1650 yards
2XL: 1900 yards 3XL: 2150 yards
4XL: 2500 yards 5XL: 3000 yards
Some of my testers used much less, some much more.
Measurements (approximate):
S: fits up to 32” bust
M: fits up to 36” bust
L: fits up to 40” bust
XL: fits up to 44” bust
2XL: fits up to 48” bust
3XL: fits up to 52” bust
4XL: fits up to 56” bust
5XL: fits up to 60” bust
This pattern is intended to have 2” positive ease per size.

Once you understand how the construction works, you can easily adjust the length of the sleeves and the top by adding extra loops (for longer sleeves or body) or reducing the number of loops (for shorter sleeves or body) to the starting chain (always add or subtract the multiple of 2 for the pattern to work).
You can also make this top into an open cardigan.

What my testers said about Seasalt Top:
@eddy_makes The pattern is easy as soon as the first 2 rows are done. And the fit is perfect with any yarn fibre, I test an L, I have an L fit with a wool yarn that is really stretchy (good point)
@Snowdropsandrainbows A very versatile pattern and so pretty, very clever design with flawless joints, love this Pattern
@The_crochet_ballroom I have never worked on a hexi pattern before, so this was a learning experience. I absolutely love the seamless joins, that’s one of the best parts !!
@artsrus_handmade Fantabulous brilliant pattern. Made it for myself and felt like a Model sporting it.
@clareceochets The shells in this design are quick to make and fit together beautifully.
@krafty.yam I love everything about my seasalt top. The seamless construction of this design is so ingenuous! The pattern is easy to follow and once you figured out the pattern repeat is almost mindless. The pattern is graded but is easily customizable to your own measurements and liking. I enjoyed myself too much making this top and can see me wearing non-stop this spring.
@Paintandknots It’s a beautiful pattern with a perfect fit and flow…I like the way the pattern grows.
@sunnywithachanceofyarn Love the stitch pattern which was easy to remember and once the setup rounds were established the process was relaxing
@chszabadkai I absolutely love the look of the shells and the way the top is crocheted. Two parts, crochet together. Great design for top and also for a cardigan (when the front pieces aren’t crocheted together).
@knottyclub Loves the construction of this top… a very clever design of Kat
@Crocheton_by_anusuya I just loved the pattern so fast. Nobody can really find the seams, which is great. Loved the design so much
@rajeshwarik2392 Once one gets the hang of the construct and instructions, it’s a breeze to work with this pattern.
@Adorkable_designs Easily memorized pattern. Easily adaptable once you understand the basics.
@Pothast63 I love the beautiful shells
@Dewdrops_crochets Happy to learn new stitch and different pattern
