Sideways Scrunchie
If you enjoyed this freebie, consider leaving me a tip on my Ko-fi!
Let’s get WEIRD with our scraps, shall we, little goblins? Scrunchie life is back, and this pattern is the perfect little palette cleanse when you’re avoiding doing something, as I am right now. Bonus: they’re a scrap buster for odd bits of yarn!
Please note that this design is a freebie to give you a taste of my full pattern compendium, Bunches-a-Scrunches.
Sizing: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL) for a ponytail circumference of 2” (3”, 4”, 5”, 6”, 7”)/5 (7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 18) cm.
Yarn: 50 – 75 yards/45 – 70 meters/12 – 17 grams of lace – sport weight yarn.
Needles: Size US 5/3.75 mm circular needles and one of a smaller size, or size needed to get a nice fabric density with preferred cable length to work flat or in the round; I like 30”/76 cm for this project to use the magic loop method.
Gauge: 5 – 6 stitches per inch/2.5 cm. Row gauge is not important.
Notions: A crochet hook (optional, if using a crochet provisional cast on) and scrap yarn, a length of elastic as indicated by the chart, sewing thread and needle, tapestry needle, and spare circular needles.
Techniques: Provisional CO, knitting in the round, 3 needle bind off, and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off (optional).
