Southern Fiords
Southern Fiords is the southern hemisphere counterpart to the more northerly Fjordland Hat (from Pom Pom Quarterly Issue 7).
Fiordland National Park hugs the southwest coastline of New Zealand’s South Island: beautiful and remote, the dramatic landscape is home to towering peaks, waterfalls, misty clouds, and rainbows. Whether you’re backcountry camping or merely daydreaming about it from home, these socks will keep your feet toasty warm!
These socks are worked from the cuff down, beginning with a stranded two-color rib. The contrasting heel is worked as a slip stitch heel flap, but other heel methods could easily be used instead, and the contrasting toe is worked in staggered decreases for a rounded shape.
The finished circumference for each size is: 7” (8”, 9”)
Yardage requirements for each color are listed below:
- yarn color A:
200 (230, 260) yds Knitsch Yarns 100% Merino Sock
(100% Merino wool, 182 yds per skein) in Hydro
2 (2, 2) skeins
- yarn color B:
90 (110, 130) yds Knitsch Yarns 100% Merino Sock
(100% Merino wool, 182 yds per skein) in Blunderbuss
