Spring: flowers and butterflies
I made this pattern for my Mum as she loves spring flowers and lots of nupps. The stitch patterns are from the book, “The Haapsalu Shawl: A Knitted Lace Tradition from Estonia” by Siiri Reimann, Aime Edasi
The shawl is knit as two identical pieces then Kitchener stitched together in the middle.
I used the Chinese Waitress cast on which I find very quick to do and it makes a nice elastic cast-on.
Yarn weight and needle size is not important. Use any yarn and gauge that results in a fabric that you like the look and feel of. Adjust the length and width of the shawl to suit.
Gauge is not important.
Length can be altered by adding more “Lily of the Valley” repeats (blocks of 20 rows). Width can be altered by adding (or removing) blocks of 30 stitches.
If you like, beads can be added.
Bead placement is indicated on the chart. I knit the stitch and then placed the bead.
Total beads used = 792 beads
This pattern is CHARTED ONLY and is probably not for a novice lace knitter.
Only right side rows are charted, with the exception of one wrong side row.
Please knit and enjoy.
