Swirl Neckwarmer
I was inspired to create my own button-up neckwarmer after seeing YarnballBoogie’s “Fourteen”. I changed the pattern up quite a bit to suit my yarn and style. This pattern is done in a traditional Brioche stitch, with decorative crochet button holes. I found that traditional Brioche creates more defined ridges, when compared to Fisherman’s Rib (the stitch used in the original pattern).
I got my handmade porcelain buttons from Joan Miller, (ButtonBliss on Etsy)
either Catalina or Cascade Alpaca would work equally well for this.
Pattern Note:
The set up row, that you only do on the very first row is:
YO, Slip 1, Knit 1 …To begin the row with a YO, bring the yarn in front of your work, slip the next stich as if to purl, then knit the next stitch by bringing the yarn OVER THE TOP of the needle to the back. This creates an extra loop on top of your slipped stitch that you will always be knitting together on the next row. Repeat the YO, Slip 1, Knit 1 across the first row.
For the rest of the project you will YO, Slip 1, k2tog, so bring your yarn forward like before, slip as if to purl, then knit together the YO/slipstitch combination from the last row, bringing the yarn over the top of the needle.
