Swirl Skirt
Previously published in Interweave Knits magazine Summer 2011. Pattern has been updated and modified. Specifically the waistline has been updated and instructions on how to modify for different weights of yarn and skirt length have been added. Sport or fingering weight makes a lovely skirt.
Please note that this skirt needs to be knit in 100% cotton and a wool or wool blend in order to keep the integrity of the knit fabric. If you’re not using 100% cotton results may vary and skirt may stretch out of shape when wearing.
Worsted Weight 100% cotton (MC), 400 (450, 500, 550, 600, 650) yds, and
Worsted Weight self- striping wool (CC) 320 (360, 400, 440, 480, 520) yds. Superwash recommended.
Finished Size: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52)“ hip circumference.
Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm): two 32” circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Marker (m); tapestry needle; 1–2 yd 1” wide elastic for waistband.
Gauge 21 sts and 35 rows = 4” in wedge pattern (see Notes in pattern).
