Take This Sock And Knit It
Came up with this idea for Sock Summit 2011 after seeing a thread asking what we were going to knit to show off at Sock Summit. I love the idea of making my own socks, but get terminal S.S.S. every time, and can’t muster two-at-a-time. This sock-making method doubles as a great technique shower-offer (getting increases to match decreases, cast-on to match bind-off or grafting, afterthought heels, and working some of the neat stretchy bind-offs out there) and a mindless project that is actually and truly mindless. (Mmmmm stockinette in the round without measuring or counting!)
I think it would be a fun project for yarn stores teaching classes, too.
Most would probably be more inclined to use sock weight yarns for this, but I would probably use a DK or worsted to make it go faster, so the gauge, recommended yarn and needle size are all up to the knitter.
