The Colourist is a crescent shaped shawl that highlights the beautiful different shadings of variegated yarns while taking advantage of a classic diamond pattern with elongated slipped stitches.

When knitting this shawl it’s just so much fun to see what colour the next elongated stitch will be!
This stitch pattern works really well for those variegated yarns, which are so pretty but often hard to find patterns for.
It creates a beautifully textured fabric, is easy to work and knits up quickly.

This design was created for the Malabrigo Quickies.

YARN:
Malabrigo Yarn Rios in variegated colourways: At least 2 skeins (∼400m), more if you wish to make a larger shawl. Or other similar variegated yarn.
It can be worked in finer yarn weights, too, but I recommend heavier weight yarns as those will make the pattern stand out more nicely.
Used for my sample: 2 skeins of Rios in colourway Arco Iris

SIZE:
adjustable to yardage available
Size of sample:
along top edge: 180cm/71“
depth: 36cm/14.2“

GAUGE:
Is not critical for this project but differences will affect yardage requirements and the finished size.
Gauge on sample: 16 sts x 32 rows = 10x10cm/4x4“ in garter stitch after blocking

The pattern contains fully written out as well as charted instructions.

I hope you’ll enjoy the pattern!
