The Spring Shawl
This shawl/scarf is knit flat from the top down. The triangle shape develops by adding four stitches each right side row- one on each edge and two going down the center. There are five layers: small diamonds, flowers, eyelets, medium diamonds, and the large diamond scallop edging.
Techniques used include casting on, knit two together, knit two together through the back loop, yarn over, knit three together, slip one, pass the slipped stitch over, and wrap and turn.
While this pattern does give a suggested number of repeats, it can be made larger or smaller by adding or subtracting repeats.
The pattern is both charted and written, with a condensed chart of the whole shawl on the last two pages.
Because this object does not need to fit, matching gauge is less crucial; it is more important to find a gauge that creates a more defined lace image.
The top-down triangle shape necessitates the use of circular needles, but the length can vary depending on what is more comfortable (24”-40’). If using Jilly Dream in Color Lace, one skein should be enough to complete the project using the written number of repeats so long as the gauge isn’t too far from the published 22 stitches to 4” wide.
