No more second sock syndrome!

In this pattern, two socks are knitted in opposite directions to make a matching pair. Or so it appears with shoes on… Take off your shoes and the history of the socks is revealed, as an arrow on each sock shows the direction in which you knitted it. You can choose between an easy garter stitch arrow on the sole or a more challenging intarsia arrow pair (charted) on the heel.

For added drama, the two socks can be knitted in one “double sock” piece. You then snip a stitch, unravel a couple of rows, bind off and sit back for the applause.

This is a good first sock pattern: by the time you have knitted your pair of socks you will have tried two methods of sock construction - and will have a handy reminder of which sock was which.
