It can be felt long before it arrives. The sky grows dark, like a bruise, and the air is hushed, waiting. Then, in the distance, a rumble, just as the full moon begins to rise, peeking above the horizon for a brief moment before being swallowed by the storm: Thunder Moon.

In 2017, the Thunder Moon occurs on July 9. It’s also know as the Buck Moon, for this is the time of year when bucks begin to grow their new antlers.

The Thunder Moon shawl has a diamond-like lace body and an arrowhead lace border. The sample shawl was worked in Lichen and Lace’s 1 ply merino fingering (colourway: Silver Fox) and is a size medium.

Yarn Requirements
Small Shawl: 425-450 yards/388-411 meters of fingering weight yarn
Medium Shawl: 625-675 yards/571-618 meters of fingering weight yarn
Large Shawl: 800-850 yards/731-777 meters of fingering weight yarn

Needles

• 3.75 mm (US 5) knitting needles, straight (at least 14” long/35 cm) or circular
• 4 mm (US 6) knitting needles, straight (at least 14” long/35 cm) or circular needle

Notions

• pins, wires, and a mat for blocking
• tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
• optional: 2 st markers for marking edge/increase sts
