These fingerless mitts are named for a park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Artists, loungers, dog park, live music, political demonstrations, skateboarders, kids’ playground…this colorful park has it all.

These cozy and snug mitts are an interesting, and fun knit. The main part of the mitt starts with a small number of stitches cast on at the center back of the hand. It is then worked in the round while growing outward in a square shape till the piece is as wide as the length across the knuckles. From there, some stitches are bound off in one row and re-cast on in the following row to make openings for the fingers, thumb and wrist. The palm is then worked in the round with decreases that dwindle down to a small number of stitches that close at the center of the palm. For the edging, stitches are picked up around the cuff, finger, and thumb edges and worked in garter stitch for a clean finish.

You will need 100 yards of striping yarn (possibly more if you want the mitts identical as shown in the sample). You will need about 10 yards of a solid colored yarn for the edgings.
