This pattern is written out, with no charts, knit in the round and is for the average adult-sized head.

I named this pattern after one of my most beloved tools - the tortillon. A simple pointed stump of rolled paper used to smudge charcoal, the tortillon is indispensable when drawing.

The halo of fine black over the brownish-gray yarn, reminded me of what a tortillon would do to a charcoal drawing that otherwise could look harsh. The changes in direction of the cabling brings out the shadowy effect of this beautiful yarn.
