Trip Mitts
A fingerless mitt, knit flat, finished with a contrasting 3 needle bindoff to seam them. Quick and fun to knit !
Trip Mitts get their name from this easy no-sew technique, and also for how quickly you can make them. Take them along as travel knitting, they’ll be finished before you return home.
Trip Mitts are great knitting if
• you don’t like knitting small projects in the round (or in the round, at all). They are knit flat.
• you’re in the mood for a quick project that won’t take too much concentration--but also won’t be too boring. You’ll be done and doing the 3 needle bind off before you have time to get bored!
• you always wanted to learn the three needle bindoff but haven’t tried it…yet
• you have some odd skeins of yarn - or leftovers from other projects- and you want to play with contrast color simply
• you don’t like seaming- once you do the 3 needle bindoff, they’re done. Boom.
• your hands are cold! Seriously, these are less like fitted outdoor wear and more like having a lovely long droopy sweater to pull over your hands and stick your thumb through, when you feel a chill, any season.
Yarn thoughts:
• The second (CC) color is used only for the bindoff seam, it is merely a few yards of yarn, to create the off-center graphic line that holds the mitts together. I list a second skein of the delicious Anzula Oasis, but you can use any yarn you like, for the bindoff.
• If you decide to acquire 2 full skeins to make these, you’ll have enough yarn for four pair of Trip Mitts
• They were designed to be loose fitting. The yarn shown is silk & camel--it’s drapey. . If you prefer a snugger fitting mitt, try a springier yarn, like a plied wool.
