Tropez features alternating bands of brioche and garter stitch, creating a fabric that is delightfully squishy and warm. The shawl is reversible, so you can create two looks in one.

This shawl begins with just a few stitches and grows into a right triangle. The brioche sections have a simple four-row repeat, and the changes to garter stitch make for a fun knit. I-cord edges allow you to invisibly carry the color that is not in use, so there are very few ends to weave in. If you use a color-changing yarn, watching the colors shift is mesmerizing.

The pattern calls for sport-weight yarn, but you can easily substitute something heavier or lighter. Just choose an appropriate needle size and repeat the brioche and garter sections until you are happy with the dimensions.

Blocked Gauge

20 stitches and 36 rows = 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch using US 4/3.5 mm needle

Gauge is not crucial for this project but will affect yardage and finished size if different from above.

• Approximately 715 yards/654 meters of sport-weight yarn in main color, shown in Scheepjes Unity in the Motivate colorway (No. 983) AND
• Approximately 415 yards/380 meters of sport-weight yarn in contrasting color, shown in Scheepjes Unity in the Haak Maar Raak colorway (No. 963)

Needles & Notions

• US 4/3.5 mm circular needle, 24”/60 cm long, or size to obtain gauge
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Pins for blocking
