Twigs Stole
Admiring old Estonian stitches, I began to wonder what would happen if I tried making the stitch larger. Perhaps each twig could become more than one stitch wide. Perhaps I could make them longer, and put more space between? This stole uses the “big twig stitch” as an all-over stitch.
Twigs pop up in a backdrop of ribbed zigzag lace. You can use beads as shown, or nupps, or leave both out.
Finished dimensions are 68 inches long (5.5 feet) by 26 inches wide. Very easy to lengthen or shorten.
You will need three skeins of sock, or about 1200 yds of fingering or lace weight yarn. If you choose to add beads, you will need about 400. Make sure the holes in the beads are large enough to fit a crochet hook and/or two strands of your yarn through!
This pattern includes row by row instructions as well as a chart so you can work from either.
Errata:
Repeat in written instructions is incorrect. Repeat 48-71 rather than 32-55 in written.
