Who doesn’t want to be a unicorn every once in a while? This knitted piece combines a hat with a scarf to make an ultra-cozy wrap. With sizing for both children and adults, everyone in the house can be a unicorn. Both versions knit up very quickly—you could make this piece in less than a week, which means this is also a great choice for a last-minute, handmade gift.

YARN
For hooded scarf
◊ For child’s version:180 metres of bulky yarn (used here: Scheepjes Mohair Original, now discontinued). For substitutes, use another bulky mohair or a worsted weight mohair held double. You can also use any kind of bulky-weight yarn to make a non-mohair version.
◊ For adult version: 400 yards of super bulky yarn. You could use a bulky-weight mohair held double, or any super bulky yarn you like.
Additional yarn:
◊ 20 m of DK weight wool for horn (used here: Whistle by Universal Yarn in latte – now discontinued, this was a acrylic/polyamide blend). To substitute, look for a DK-weight yarn, I chose something with a bit of a sheen to it so it looks almost like gold.
◊ additional colored yard for mane – approximately 35 m (I’ve used half a skein of Fleece Artist’s Merino Stream in Hibiscus)

NEEDLES
◊ 8mm 24” circular needles for child’s size or 12 mm 24” circular needles for adult size.
◊ Additional needles, both sizes: 2.5 mm double pointed

GAUGE
◊ child’s size, in pattern with 8 mm needles, 14 sts x 16 rows
◊ adult size, in pattern with 12 mm needles, 8 sts x 12 rows
